*Observatory, 2011
MDT, Stockholm*
Observatory takes place in total darkness, in which the visitor is both the observer and the observed. Physical sensations and memories are enacted and projected onto an unseen stage.
*The Infinite Conversation, 2011
Magasin 3*
Visitors are led by hand, entering a darkened gallery and drifting into
discussions held between disembodied voices.
Entangled Work
Observatory and The Infinite Conversation are two works that exist as separate units, in two different places, in the theatre and in the gallery. The two works reflect and extend into one another.
In the constructed silence of Observatory, the visitor is led in the dark through a course of events guided by instructions. The visitor’s internal dialogue is emphasized by his/her own voice/voices in an effort to preserve the ego’s control over the situation – and the boundaries of the self.
In The Infinite Conversation our voices are projected out into a space, where they create a dialogue with others. The gallery, like the dark caves of Lascaux, stores this information in its own inherent memory. The work is best described as a self-organizing system where the laws of nature appear more like habits that change when moved to a new location and when new visitors interact with it. This cavity, like the human mind is extended beyond the scull, has walls more like membranes. Its inner structure is loose, flexible, webbed, overlapping, and redundant.
